Sun 28 Sep MT PORTAL @ GLENBROOK (NSW)
Runners start next to Apple Tree flat picnic area and run up Bennetts Ridge Fire Trail before taking a left turn onto a single track that leads to the Nepean River. Runners will loop back into Darug Campground in Euroka Clearing before making the "billygoat climb" out of the picnic area. At the top of the ridge, runners will make a right turn onto a glorious piece of single track that skirts Portal Waterhole. Runners will exit the single track at the base of Mt. Portal. From there it is a tough climb on fire trail to the top of Mt. Portal and onto Portal Lookout. Runners will turn around here and descend Mt. Portal. Back at the T intersection, runners will make a right hand turn and take the single track back to the main roadway and veer up to the Campfire Creek walking track and make their way almost into the causeway but make a hard turn and head up the Red Hands Cave Track, take take an early exit at Link Trail and heading up a lesser known track into the Ironbark Picnic area to the final descent into Euroka. Sun 26 Oct KEDUMBA HALF MARATHON (NSW)
Strap yourself in for arguably the toughest half marathon in Australia. Runners will start from the old Queen Victoria Hospital and head down, down, down Kedumba Walls to the campground. After crossing the river, runners will turn around and make the climb back up Kedumba Walls to the finish area. The entire course is on open fire trail, with approximately 800m of elevation change. Course Description: The entire course is on graded fire trail/vehicle access tracks. The race will commence from the hospital and head down Kedumba Walls. Runners will pass the Jamison Valley maintenance track on your right. Continue down the trail into Kedumba Valley. You will reach the valley and cross a cattle grid. Continue past the turn off to Kedumba Ruins. Take a right turn and run past Kedumba campground and get your feet wet crossing Kedumba River. A short distance after the river there will be a bollard indicating the turnaround. Runners will turn here and retrace their steps. The Half Marathon is a 21.1 km out and back route from the former Honeysuckle Creek Space Tracking Station to the former Orroral Valley Space Tracking Station and return. The Deep Space Mountain Marathon does this course twice. The 10 km is an out and back route from Honeysuckle Creek. Sat 15 Nov NARROWNECK NIGHT RUN 20KM & 14KM (NSW)
The Narrowneck Run is both splendidly scenic and refreshingly straightforward. From the main gate runners follow the only fire trail right out to its terminus at Clear Hill, then return. There are no significant junctions or deviations. There are no biting hills on Narrowneck as there were at, say, Mt Portal or Woodford Dam, but the track does roll with plenty of sharp ups and downs and on the return leg the gradual ascent from Clear Hill to the fire tower does take nearly three kilometres. The full option is an even 20 kilometres, a shorter option involves turning at the fire tower which makes a 14 kilometre run. Narrowneck is a long, cliff-bound peninsula which divides the Jamison Valley from the Megalong Valley. As you head out, on your left is near-pristine bush framed by the Warragamba Catchment; on your right is cultivated farmland with Jenolan and Kanangra on the far western horizon. Mon 26 Jan KNAPSACK LAP RACE - 3HR/6HR (NSW)
We are celebrating Australia Day this year with a bush run with a difference. A 5km loop course around Knapsack Park, Glenbrook. The course has a mixture of single track, fire trail, descents, climbs and two lookouts. Solo runners, pairs relays and teams relays of up to four categories are available to suit all runners. Get a bunch of mates together and come up and make a day of it. Have a run and then sit back, enjoy the company, have a cold drink and watch others do the running. Starting out of the leafy surrounds of sleepy Knapsack Oval and taking in the sights of this largely unknown running reserve (well Mtb I suppose officially). The Knapsack Lap Race will provide single track, open fire trail, ridge lines, gully�s and tremendous views from the Marge�s and Elizabeth Lookouts. All in a tidy 5km circuit. The event offers opportunities for solo runners and relay teams. With time frames of 3hrs and 6hrs to choose from.
