Sun 20 Mar GREAT VOLCANIC MOUNTAIN CHALLENGE (NSW)
An 11km course up Mount Canobolas (1397m) near Orange, NSW. Run from Towac Pinnacle Picnic Grounds to the summit of Mt Canobolas via Mt Towac and Young Man Canobolas. It takes in spectacular views from the forestry roads and then on to little used bush tracks through beautiful woodland. Total course climb is 520m. Individual, Team or Family group entries. 11th year for this event. It will also incorporate the 2016 NSW Mountain Running Championship. Sat 9 Apr JABULANI CHALLENGE (NSW)
The Jabulani Challenge is a stunning trail run through the Ku-Ring-Gai National Park in the north of Sydney. Predominantly on single track the trail has everything to offer from waterside tracks, rainforest bushland, steep hill inclines and creek crossings. Exploring some of the hidden waterways that Pittwater is famous for its hard to believe you are only 30 minutes from the heart of Sydney. With three distances to choose from the event caters for hardened trail runners to social walkers. Wed-Mon 11-16 May ULTRA-TRAIL AUSTRALIA (NSW)
A five-day trail running festival of unprecedented scope. Previously branded as The North Face 100 and The North Face 50, the existing 100km and 50km events, already established as the southern hemisphere;s largest trail races, are now subsumed under the Ultra-Trail Australia brand. From May 11 - May 16, 2016, Katoomba, NSW, will play host to over 4000 athletes, spectators and support crew, converging for a five-day trail running extravaganza. The endurance event is open to all challengers and has multiple solo and team formats that make the concept of racing 24 hours palatable for most fitness levels. Racers are invited to challenge the course solo in a grueling and mentally demanding battle, or to register for the event as part of a two or four person team. Only one racer is allowed on course at a time, so the option is open to competitors to hit the course as hard as they like, then rest and enjoy the company of likeminded friends while waiting for team mates to return from their lap. The Tough Bloke Challenge is open to men and women who wish to confront a hellish assault course in a test of strength and endurance. Reputed to be one of the most gruelling adventure runs found anywhere in Australia, you will brave 25+ hair-raising obstacles over a cross-country course laden with thick mud-pits and ice-cold water crossings. Expect muscle-burning obstacles, mud trenches covered with barbed wire, and damp, dark concrete tunnels. Amongst other challenges, the ultimate hurdle, aptly named ‘Hells Gate’, is the one feared by most and comes with tales of rope burns at nerve-racking heights. Designed for the weekend warrior this is running at its toughest. Take it seriously, or not (some opt to walk the entire course), the event promises to be a fun day out for all.
